NATIONAL RELAYS/AAI GAMES

Athletes from the club were in action on Sunday at the brand new athletics facility in Athlone IT, which incidentally was opened on the day by our own Eamonn Coghlan.

In the 4 x 400 relay championships, our very young team of Joe Barry, Andrew Brennan, Kevin Mulligan and Cian Christie did themselves and the club proud in an excellent performance to take the bronze medals.

Taking place immediately after a downpour (during which the athletes were soaked) and run on a film of water lying on the track, each of the athletes performed out of their skins to achieve this fine result.   

In the individual events in the AAI Games, John Coghlan put in another fine performance, to take 3rd in the 1500m.  Detached from the first 2 relatively early in the race, John put in a blistering last 200m to earn 3rd place.  Cian Christie in the long jump and Joe Barry in the 200m also competed during the afternoon.
