National Junior Indoor Championships and AAI Games
Nenagh was the venue at the weekend for both the National Junior Indoor championships and the AAI Games. Andrew Brennan of Metro St Brigids was a busy man at the Junior championships bringing home gold in the 3000 metres and finishing 4th in the 800m. Also on the podium was Philip Hilliard who won bronze in the 1500m. On Sunday, at the AAI games, the traditional curtain-raiser to the indoor season, the club was represented by Jackie Mulhall and, making his MSB debut, Pete Schwartzstein. Both competed in the 60m and 200m and turned in solid performances while getting much needed race practice. Next up are the National Senior championships which will take place in the Odyssey Arena, Belfast on the weekend of 7/8 February at which a number of athletes from MSB will be competing. Meanwhile, in Raheny at the AXA 5 mile road race, with over 1,500 runners, John Coghlan finished in a very creditable 6th place while Brendan Briody finished in 163rd in the senior men’s category. In the age group categories, Tadg Twomey wib the 0/70 while Paddy Parrott finished 4th in the over 50.
