Metro athletes perform well in Inter County Cross Country Championships Tramore Racecourse, Waterford, was the venue for the National Inter County Cross Country Championships. Metro St Brigids AC athletes performed extremely well in the cold and blustery conditions, winning Inter County medals for Dublin in their age group. Vanessa O’Connor was 2nd scorer on the Dublin team in the girls under 12, winning an Inter County Gold medal. Peter Gaffney ran strongly in the boys under 16 category. Andrew Brennan was impressive in the boys under 18, finishing 2nd scorer on another Gold winning Dublin team. Phillip Hilliard very narrowly missed out on a medal in the same age group. In the hotly contested Junior Men’s race Metro’s Liam Tremble finished 8th overall and was 2nd scorer on the gold winning Dublin team. In the blue riband Men’s Senior race John Coghlan finished in a creditable 12th place, yet again scoring for a Dublin Inter County winning team. Other athletes scoring notable results in Metro St Brigid’s colours in recent weeks were Kate O’Neill, who finished third in the Leinster Intermediate Women’s cross country Championship in Abbeyleix, and Ultrarunner Tony Mangan, who travelled all the way to Dallas, Texas to add a win in the Ultracentric 48 hour race to his impressive cv. |
