Tony Mangans report from European 24 hour Championships, See below
I finished 9th with a new Irish 24 hour track record of 223.73km bettering
my old Irish record of 213.6km set in Texas in 2001.
I ran 16 hrs 58 mins for a new Irish 100 mile track record bettering the
record I set of 17hrs 21 mins in Hull in 2003.
It was very hot and tough. I moved through the field steadily but had
to run non stop for the last 5 hours to get into the top 10. This would
not have been possible but for the help I received from my German friend
Thomas Wenning who after unfortunately dropping out injured. Thomas and
his girlfriend, Claudia kindly crewed for me. Am looking forward to running
and paying back the favour to Thomas when we run the Dublin marathon at
the end of the month.
